Did you know that healthy habits are not only good for you but also good for your wallet? Amazingly enough, many of the unhealthy habits we’ve built aren’t the cheapest options. Do yourself and your wallet a favor by checking out these healthy habits that can help you save money.
1. Cook at Home
It’s no secret that eating restaurant and take-out food isn’t the cheapest option. It also tends not to be the healthiest option, depending on where you typically eat out.
Cooking your own meals at home will make your wallet a lot happier. Plus, you can choose a wide variety of fresh produce to ensure you are getting all the food groups in your diet (especially those greens)! Worried you don’t have enough time to cook? 2. Exercise
But the gym costs money! Yes, but that also isn’t the only option for exercise, you can get in shape on a budget.
Even if you do faithfully pay your gym membership (and use it), the rewards you reap from regular exercise will still save you money. Exercise naturally boosts your immune system. This means you’ll catch fewer colds and other sicknesses.
Furthermore, other benefits of exercise help stave off some of the biggest killers in the US. For example, exercise gives your heart a good workout and helps keep your weight under control, important preventative measures for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
3. Cut Back on the Booze
Drinking alcohol can be fun and a nice way to relax. It can also put a serious dent in your wallet and damage your health if you overindulge. Try to limit yourself to 6 drinks a week or less. If you can cut back even more, you’ll reap both health and budget benefits.
4. Make Your Own Coffee
Whether coffee is good or bad for you depends on the current trend and who you talk to. However, sugar-laden drinks from the coffee shop most certainly aren’t good for you. Plus, if you buy one $5 coffee a day, you’re spending $150 a month or $1,825 a year on coffee!
If you drown your coffee in sugar at home, it won’t be much better for your health, but you’ll still save a significant amount of money. And if you can reduce your sugar usage as much as possible, you’ll be in even better shape.
5. Get to Work Under Your Own Steam
If you live close enough to work, try to walk or bike as often as you can. You should be exercising anyway, so this is a great way to get your daily workout in. Plus, you’ll save a lot of money on car repair and fuel bills, especially with the rising cost of gas.
